What's the deal with Mineral Makeup?

Is mineral makeup better than others? If so, why? I have seen a brand called "Physicians Formula" in drug stores and I've also heard of "Jane Iredale" that must be good because it's expensive. Any comments or info about mineral makeup would be great!! Thanks a bunch
